Inission Syd’s extended factory in Malmö declared open
Almost two hundred guests were present on November 7, when Inission Syd inaugurated its newly renovated and expanded factory in Malmö, marking a significant milestone for the company and an important development for the region’s electronics industry. The celebration coincided with the company’s 40th anniversary and attracted customers, suppliers, and representatives from the City of Malmö.
The ribbon was cut and the new facilities opened
Among the guests were Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, Chair of the Malmö City Council, and Micael Nord, Director of Economic Development for Malmö City, who, together with Carl Lidén, Managing Director of Inission Syd, officially opened the new facilities. With sharp scissors, the red ribbon was then cut, which was proudly held up by Fredrik Berghel and Olle Hulteberg, founders of Inission, and our extended factory was declared open!
We are strengthening our position in Malmö
“It is a pleasure to inaugurate these new facilities and strengthen our position in Malmö, a city where the electronics industry has an exciting potential. Malmö has a strong presence of key companies in the sector, and this investment demonstrates how important it is for us to meet customers’ growing needs,” says Carl Lidén.
Fifty percent larger production area and sustainable solutions
The new expansion increases production space by 50%, giving Inission Syd a total factory area of 5,400 square meters. With this new space, the company can meet the growing demand for advanced, customized manufacturing services within the electronics sector. The factory has also undergone extensive improvements to ensure climate control and ESD protection, creating optimal conditions for high-quality electronics production.
This makes us even more competitive
“We have seen a need for increased capacity for some time, and this expansion not only creates more space but also enables a more efficient production flow. This makes us even more competitive and allows us to deliver at the highest level,” continues Carl Lidén.
Investments in security-classified manufacturing
To meet the specific requirements of clients in the defence and security sectors, Inission Syd now also prepares to offer security-classified manufacturing. The new facilities have been built to adapt to specific security requirements, in close collaboration with the company’s customers.
A green and sustainable expansion
“We have undertaken the expansion in a sustainable way by reusing building materials and improving insulation and energy efficiency. Our new production lines also contribute to more energy-efficient manufacturing, aligning with the company’s ambition to drive sustainable industrial development. Inission Syd is now looking forward to the next step as a leading full-service provider in advanced industrial electronics, strengthened by the new investment and improved production capabilities,” concludes Carl Lidén.

Inission case study: Funki Instruments – electronic music joy for everyone!
With a number of awards under its belt, the innovative start-up company Funki Instruments is now breaking new ground with a unique range of musical instruments for users with intellectual and other cognitive disabilities. After winning the Inission Innovation Award, production at Inission Syd and Inission Tallinn is in full swing and there are already customers in both Sweden and England.
“This is a fantastic and slightly different company that we would like to highlight, and it warms the heart to be part of this innovative and inclusive project that will spread an enormous amount of joy. It is also a technically advanced project where we weave together several different skills in electronics and mechanical manufacturing”, says Fredric Grahn, Sales & Marketing Director at Inission.
Everyone should be able to play music!
The two founders, Maria Svahn and Josefine Hölling, got the idea when they studied media technology at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. There they were faced with a very special task: to create instruments adapted for students with intellectual and cognitive disabilities. The result was Funki, an innovative set of electronic musical instruments that anyone can play!
Socialize with the help of music
“Our idea is that Funki’s instruments become a way to socialize with others using music. Many people with intellectual disabilities have challenges with social interactions, especially if one has no speech. Then the music becomes something you can do together. I have worked in adapted school for over ten years, and Josefine is a software developer and music producer. When we trained as civil engineers and Funki was created, it was like a perfect mix of all skills. We both have a burning interest in music and people and know how much joy it means to create music together”, says Funki’s CEO Maria Svahn.
Knowledge and manufacturing at Inission
“When we came into contact with Inission via the Inission Innovation Award, we already had a finished prototype that we developed at KTH Innovation, which supports students and researchers who want to build companies from their ideas that arose during the KTH era. Most of our manufacturing is now at Inission in Malmö and Tallinn, which developed and manufactures PCBs, connectors, and sheet metal parts for the instruments’ chassis. Inission has also supported a great deal with its knowledge in everything from DFM and component selection to help with CE marking”, continues Maria Svahn.
Nearshoring crucial!
“We have also learned that nearshoring is important as more and more companies place high demands on both social and environmental sustainability. For example, the first question from our English dealer was: Where is it produced? Then it was cool to be able to answer that it is produced under sustainable conditions in Sweden and Estonia instead of somewhere on the other side of the world. We now see the future very brightly. The order books are starting to fill up and maybe we have more products in the works”, concludes Funki’s CEO Maria Svahn.
This is how Funki’s instrument works.
- The instruments look like small boxes with knobs, buttons, joysticks, and touch surfaces programmed to play a sound or a sequence of sounds.
- No prior knowledge is required, neither by users nor by support persons.
- Built-in speakers make it possible to play together in a group.
- Inside each instrument is a computer that helps users stick to a common key, scale, and part of the song composition.
- The instruments include a web app, where you choose how the instruments should sound based on a sound library.
- The sound library is smartly structured to be easy to use for both users and employees within LSS, and all the instruments always sound good with each other.
