A new state-of-the-art factory in Borås under way

Inission’s new state-of-the-art factory in Borås is now developing at a rapid pace. Together with Part Development, one of Sweden’s leading consultants in Lean and business development, and internal project groups, the premises are designed into a highly efficient facility for optimal and sustainable manufacturing of electronics.

The goal is to become a Swedish flagship for electronics manufacturing and a centre for training and improvement activities for the group’s own employees as well as for customers and partners.

Leading competence in optics and box build
Inission in Borås will continue to offer circuit board manufacturing and complete box build in the new premises, supplemented by comprehensive solutions for logistics and distribution. To optimize the exchange between Inission’s factories, new equipment and machinery are specially selected to be compatible with the technology within Inission’s other units.

– We have an extremely high level of expertise in box build where we will now be able to manage even larger volumes in an efficient manner. We also have unique expertise in optics, where, for example, our specialists with Swedish technology, know-how and efficiency create world-leading applications, says Carl Lidén, CEO Inission Syd AB.

Strategic location in western Sweden
– You can say that the investment in Borås is a direct response to an increased demand for our services. Western Sweden is also a dynamic and rapidly growing region. With a new factory, we can continue to benefit from the strong industrial tradition and innovative power that characterizes the area from the Malmö and Copenhagen regions in the south to Norway in the north continues Carl Lidén.

– The infrastructure is also favourable, which simplifies the cooperation between the Swedish and the Norwegian units. In this way, we can optimize the flow of products within and outside the EU and create tailored solutions for delivery directly to end customers, says Erik Dragset, CEO Inission Lökken.

Best possible working environment
– We will also have a new and fantastic work environment where our employees have been deeply involved in the design. The combination of leading Lean thinking and the bright, quiet, and airy premises guarantees the best possible working environment. This plays a large and significant role for both the commitment and well-being of our employees and our efficiency, something we hope will be felt all the way to our customers. We estimate that we will be ready for inauguration and full production in March 2025. This also coincides with Inission celebrating 40 years in Borås and of course we must celebrate that, concludes Carl Lidén CEO Inission Syd AB.

The component market is more stable than in a long time

After several years of high uncertainty and large variations, the market for components now appears to be in a relatively stable situation in terms of both prices and lead times, says Inissions Strategy and Supply Chain Manager Håkan Rååd.

To levels from before the pandemic
– The market for components has stabilized and both prices and lead times have fallen back to levels that prevailed before the pandemic. For some more complex components, however, there are signs that prices may rise if demand increases. We also see that many brokers and dealers are quite aggressive in their pricing to reduce the stocks they have built up during the uncertain period that has prevailed in recent years.

Waiting for a turnaround in the market
– At the same time as, Chinese industrial production is in a quieter phase, the demand for consumer electronics has increased again. The major suppliers have adjusted their supply to balance their stocks and availability of components. Now all levels are instead waiting for a turnaround in the coming quarters, and this could affect supply and the price picture somewhat.

Transportation
– Even on the transport side, we see a significantly more stable situation. There is now greater shipping capacity and access is good in both air and sea transport. The same applies to the prices, which are at a stable level.

Megatrends rule in the long term
– If we are to predict the future, it is the big megatrends that will control the market. We see a bright future in the electronics industry, and it is primarily the trends in electric vehicles, the defence industry, data storage and wireless communication that will guide future developments in the industry.

Good forecasts help
– Our advice to our customers is to continue to give us as long-term forecasts as possible. This, in turn, makes it easier for us to ensure the availability of components, especially if demand will rapidly increase. Another piece of advice we want to give is to review older components that are at risk of being phased out when manufacturers increasingly focus on newer versions. Here we can also help with the selection and purchase of the right components to replace the old ones.

What is Innovate and how is it part of Inission?
– Innovate is Inission’s own one stop shop development department that helps customers develop cost-effective, easy-to-manufacture, EMC-tested and component lifecycle safe products. Involving Innovate is the first step in creating an optimal value chain, and via Innovate, Inission can offer all steps in the product life cycle, from development, prototypes, industrialization, manufacturing, aftermarket to product updates. At Innovate, we work partly as consultants where we contribute as a resource in the customer’s team, but also with development packages where we conduct the development work on our own desk. Since the demand for Innovates services now is growing, Innovate is currently working on reviewing and developing the lab in Västerås to offer even more opportunities under its own roof.

What is unique about Innovate?
– With Innovate as a partner in your product development, you get a partner with extensive experience in electronics development, who also has access to prototype manufacturing and serial production under the same roof. This means that the people who have developed an understanding of your product can be involved in the entire product life cycle.

Inissions and Innovates vast experience in electronics manufacturing gives us insights already in the product development phase, how to optimize the design for mass production, help ensure component supply during the product life cycle and proactively avoid difficult-to-manufacture designs.

Why is it important to involve Innovate at an early stage?
– The key word for us at Innovate is “Close to the product”. Involving us in the early stages of the process reduces the number of handovers, increases transparency and knowledge about the steps in the product’s life cycle and gives the product better conditions for high quality in series production, year after year. Innovate can ensure all appropriate documentation, testing, design review and identification of cost savings for industrialization and manufacturing. We can also offer tailored support packages to our customers, everything from “on demand” review of outdated components and “product care” for older products to longer development assignments of next generation products.
